Rachel is a Broadcast News Major, Spanish Minor studying at Howard University in Washington DC. Set to graduate in May 2015, Rachel is currently developing her skills as a multi-media journalist while becoming an influential mentor, role model, community server, and leader.
She has skills in the fields of public relations, marketing, business, branding, and event planning with a heavy interest in health/beauty and fashion. Her recent endeavors include interning for Dewdrop DC LLC, marketing Procter & Gamble Products on Howard University’s campus, contributing campus news to both 101Magazine.net and Spotlight Network, and styling with Ann Taylor Inc.
She is a native of Hamilton, New Jersey, a sister to one, and a daughter to a supportive pair of parents. As the first to attend a four-year institution in her family, Rachel has her sights set on continuously growing and improving in every way possible. Her community, friends, church, and family are all a part of her support system that she constantly strives to make proud.
She’s a lover of spontaneous exploring, retail therapy (shopping…), learning, social networking and serving others. She is equipped with an energetic personality, adoration of Solange Knowels, and addiction to green tea ready to take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself.
Along with her pursuits in the communications industry Rachel would like to incorporate mentoring and educating youth into her career plans.
“Working with and serving the youth is one of my favorite things to do. Through it I am able to impact the lives of others as my own mentors have done for me,” said Rachel “I get to see those I help grow into educated, driven young people.”
Rachel first traveled abroad to both China and Japan with the Howard University Freshman Leadership Academy where she toured historic sites and cities’ immersed herself in the countries’ different cultures, and networked with local students. With the support from others, a portion of the trip’s cost was successfully raised and alleviated a financial strain from her parents. She hopes that through this fundraising campaign she is able to do the same to show that it’s feasible for students to travel internationally without adding an expense to college bills.
